Tongariro School in Turangi is rolling out the first Bikes in Schools project for our district.  Special thanks to local teacher George Jensen, who has built a track over 1km long around the perimeter of their playground.  Bike Taupo has ordered new bikes and the kids will have access to riding every day at school.   www.bikeon.org.nz has more information on the scheme.

Funding was from the District Health Board and Taupo District Council via the Turangi/Tongariro Community Board Grant.  Paul McArdle from Bike On and Cath Oldfield from Kids Bike Taupo were the catalyst to bring this project about, but it is all the work of a group of teachers in the school.

The track is being opened from 4-7 pm on Friday 15th February.
