Track Update for March 2014

Day by day we are getting closer to joining up the last part of the GLT. We have the odd bike and hike the last part and its going to be about 31 kms from end to end. Has a lot of short climbs and descents with stunning views and great bush to ride along in.  A lot of this track is also on rock so great riding in the wet.

Rotary has approved to fund a realignment on Rotary Ride.  Its the section Taupo side off the Ladder. The idea is that we will put in a zig zag take out the steep hill and also widen going around the bluff and make this two way.   This will also include doing some earth works on the bottom of the Huka Lodge down hill so it has a better run out and will not cut up in the dry weather.

There is a new bridge over hot water creek on its way. It will be longer and much higher to stop it getting washed  away (has happened twice) with lower dips on each end.

Steam Fields block is progressing. This is a very big job and if you are keen to help let us know and we can sort out access to the track for you. There is a working bee on the 23rd March.

There have been quite a few  trees down in last two weeks so keep the reports coming please. Thanks to those that have send in emails, otherwise the rest of you would have been climbing over trees on the Thursdays race's and a few other places

Sorry about the dust - can't do a thing - Just ride under the trees!  Places like TeTotara Gully, loop down to the Red bridge from Huka falls are great riding at the moment no dust and cooler under the native bush
