Track Crew Roundup
You can always tell a good track crew by their hard hats.
For those of you out and about there are a few changes you may notice around the place.
A new bridge at Hot Water stream has gone in today. This is much higher and stronger than the old one. The old bridge had been washed away twice and the new one will allow us to take the diggers over it saving time and money on maintenance.
We are coming back to realign the track down to the Ladder bridge and also the bottom of the Huka Lodge downhill. This work is funded by Rotary and is part of the long term plan improving the Rotary Ride to be more user friendly as a two way track.
The Steam Fields track is still moving along with the whole track now taped. We hope to have the diggers in to form the Resort track link very soon. The completed new track will probably be twice the length of current construction.
SH Fun and the new parts of Tourist Trap are due for a visit from a digger and power borrow to improve flow and correct any alignment required. Now that we have the system back up and running we can look at improving these and other tracks. This work is being funded by the Mountain Bike Club which is a big help to BT. There is still one track to go to restore the front track system to pre March 2012 storm status.
We have finished some realignment work on the Kawakawa Bay track. We have improved the gradient on the steep hill which was starting to wash out and also fixed a few corners we didn't get right the first time.
