Advocacy

Road

  • In consultation with TDC planning has started on a cycle/pedestrian bridge from the Countdown side of road to river side

Financial

 

  • 2470 members (individuals & family members) 1st Jan – 15th Sept 2015
  • Wednesday PD crew worked 45 days per year x 8 persons = 360 man days. Even if they only have half output it’s still 180 man days x $216 =  $38 880 savings per year.
  • Agency boys worked 2 days per week x 45 weeks x 2 men per day   = 180 man days. Even if they only have half output it’s still 90 man days x $216 =  $19 440 savings per year.

Great Lake Trail (GLT)

  • GLT Facebook page has 1366 likes
  • GLT website had 12 095 visitors year Sept 2014 – Aug 2015
  • 40 000 single link riders counted in one year
  • Group of independent businesses pursuing setting up bike hire/shuttle/boat transfer near shelter on Kinloch Domain
  • Pest control actively undertaken
  • Willows and pines removed in Orakau link wetland
  • Acacia Bay to Whakaipo Bay link initial look
  • Build a trail from Whangamata Rd (Orakau link) to Otaki stream (K2K link) creating a loop and to get cyclists off the road

  • 34 events run in last 12 months on the BT track network and includes:

d) Hoka One One Kinloch Off Road Challenge

  • BT helped out at the DGLT stand at Crankworx 2015
  • Host Huka MTB events (Contact Lake Taupo Cycle Challenge)
  • Crankworx, the world’s largest MTB festival is in Rotorua March 2016. We are working with DGLT to create awareness in the MTB community of the close proximity of Taupo to Rotorua so that attendees may consider Taupo as an add on.

  • Te Iringa track upgraded collaboratively with Taupo MTB Club & Hawkes Bay MTB Club
  • Track damage cleared within 48 hours of reporting

  • Representative attended Trail Fund NZ seminar in Rotorua in September

Kids Bike Taupo:

 

  • 5379 ‘Rides’ on KBT bikes
  • 208 first time riders on 2 wheels
  • 232 sessions which is on average just over 1 session every weekday of the year
  • Average number of riders each session       was 23
  • Focused on those who cannot ride competently on two wheels 
  • Targeted early childhood centres and the junior syndicates at primary schools
  • Raised awareness at Whakaipo Bay Lodge concert
  • Featured in Moe Show
  • Secure significant funding to enable the programme to grow
  • Educate the community about the programme
