Track Crew News - October 2008
For those who want a change of scenery bike around the Aratiatia dam by using the track that goes down the western side of the lake. We have built a track to get you off the highway which goes into the gum trees just after the Wairakei Steam Bridge and pops out at the Contact site lookout. "Contact" has been very helpful in allowing us to use this piece of land.
You then free wheel down the hill, go straight ahead climbing over or under the gates and stay on the 4X4 track which will lead you around to the dam. Then it’s back up the Aratiatia track to Huka falls If you have gone from the Hub café it a little over 20Kms that’s via Totara Gully back up the hill and going around the hotel via the car park.
For shape people who have seen the new bit of track at the top of the Huka Lodge down hill we will open it soon we are just trying to get the rain to pack it down a bit at the moment. The idea is to take out the top RH corner that causes a few problems for the newer riders when the corner cuts out in the summer.
We have also re-laid the matting in places on the Rotary Ride it make it easier to ride for new comers
We are going back into W2K next week to carry on with the headland track. At this stage we have funding for a further 3 or 4 Kms but have a short fall in funding off $25,000. This is because we misjudged extra distance that we did on stage one going in and out of gullies. We have done a walk around in the last few weeks and we can say that the best is yet to come so watch this space and start riding up the head land track
W2K seems to be getting plenty of traffic on nice weekends remember its two way. Thanks to Tom Sawyer and the Single Speed boys for clearing of the branches and sticks of the track this is a big saving to us.
Carwins track in the Paintball area is growing slowly and has packed down in the last mouth and is worth checking out. Other tracks worth checking out are Better than P and The Young Pines both are fast and smooth at the moment.
The down hill boys are working on the new down hill track at the moment the digger work has been done and it now requires lots of racking to get it finished see Nigel at Top Gear to help
The top of Cork Screw also got realigned so it all flows a bit better. The old entry is still up the road for those than can’t get up the Cork Screw
Thanks to the Marshals who helped on the Day Nighter and all the friendly locals saying Hi! Made for a great day out on the treadlie
Track of the mouth The Buzzard to bottom its smooth fast and still eats you if you get it wrong
Cheers
