Track Crew News - June 08

Thanks to all the people who have turned up at working bee’s of late.

We got the Rotary Ride fixed and open within a week only because people gave up some time on a Saturday morning to help us. Plus the Buzzard is much better to ride now the rutting has been cleaned up. Bike Taupo can’t do all the work by themselves on the budget we have we just have to many Kms of tracks so it’s great when we get help.

Seems to be a lot of riders around Wairakei, was very busy on Saturday, if you are a local and you see people looking like a stunned mullet at a sign post ask if they are lost and show them were to go.

We have pulled out of W2K for the winter; we got 3Kms out on the headland track so check it out it needs some traffic on it to pack it down. We still have the gully track and board walk to build in Kinlock which we will chip away at over the next few mouths

Lots of riders, walkers and runners on W2K so take it easy and get a bell for your bike it’s a hell of lot easier if you keep running into lots of walkers. And take in easy on the brakes, we have already had spend a day putting in rock braking points

Hope to start the new down hill off the top of the Ground Effect Grinder next month.
This track is being build so we can run race’s in a big figurer of eight and is being sponsored by Rotary as its going to be part of the Wild Side 70Km Mt bike race being held with around the lake.
It’s a great course and we have got it so you will only have to ride one little part twice. We will also have places you have never ridden before

Murray Fleming has done a lot of work on the Day Nighter track so if you want a  night ride check it out, more riders the better to help pack it down

We are working in with DoC to try and get something sorted out in Totara Gully, will have to reroute the track in one place and shift a bridge we think but will try and keep it nice single track

Cheers
