How will the membership be enforced at Craters MTB Park?

The Craters Mountain Bike Park - Wairakei Forest will not be fenced off (like some MTB parks) and Bike Taupō will rely on the co-operation and goodwill of users. Bike Taupō trackcrew & committee members may randomly check membership tags.

Signage is erected at key entry points to explain that users of the Park must be members of Bike Taupō.  These signs will also explain how to join Bike Taupō - a process that will be quick and simple.

Pines down on Rotary Ride

Just two pines fell on the Huka down-hill on Wednesday. All cleaned up quickly thanks to a phone call from a cyclist commuting to work.
Use the button on the home page to keep the tree reports coming in and we can deal to the trees quickly. Remember we don't bike the tracks every day!

Craters MTB Park recreation permit conditions

As from 1 January 2014 all persons (including bikers, runners and walkers) using Craters MTB Park - Wairakei Forest  need to be a paid-up member of Bike Taupō. This is a condition of the Recreation Permit from LINZ under which Bike Taupō operates the Park.  Most people think that the Park is open to the general public, however although Wairakei Forest is Crown Land, it is not land to which the public are able to freely access.  Usage needs to be monitored and controlled and LINZ do this via Recreation Permits issued to approved bodies. Bike Taupō is required to ensure that all users of the Park are doing so under it's Recreation Permit.  This means all users must be members of BT and come under the protection of BT's public liability insurance policy.

Use of all other Bike Taupō tracks such as the Huka Trails and the Great Lake Trail remain free to access.

Mountain Bike Club AGM Report

Mountain Bike Club AGM Report

The following report was filed by BT free lance reporter Cath Oldfeild:

The 2013 Mountain Bike Taupo AGM was held at The Waterside Bar on Thursday 21st November.  It was an excellent evening with drinks, nibbles, awards and a quiz.  It didn't really feel like an AGM at all.  The club has made huge progress in the past 12 months and the the relationship between the club and Bike Taupo is in very good shape.  So good in fact, that Mountain Bike Taupo gave Bike Taupo a lovely cheque for $1,000.  This was the profit from the evening and is to be used for further track building and maintenance.  Thank you very much to Warren and his team for recognising the work that Bike Taupo does for mountainbiking.

Our very own Pete Masters was given a well deserved life membership in Mountain Bike Taupo, in recognition of his years of service to the sport in the Taupo district.  The club also rewarded Bike Taupo people Shorty Hughes and Cath Oldfield for their help over the past 12 months.

Congratulations to Taupo's Sport Club of the Year for a fun and feel good evening.  Mountainbiking is alive and kicking in Taupo.
