Pump Track/Spark Trails/Dirt Park Update

Taupo Moana Rotary has funded $4,800.00 to Taupo Bike Park Inc, aka Spark Trails/Taupo Dirt Jumps, to put in a tap and to buy more dirt and digger time.  The whole area will be jumps before we know it.  If you want to see the boys in action, stop by on at Saturday or Sunday afternoon and ride the Little Line next to the road.   With the days getting longer, they will be riding and digging after work soon too.
This group is also in discussion with the Taupo Mountainbike Club about taking over the maintenance on the Pump Track.  Jumping and pumping are made to go together!

Update on the Huka Challenge Course

Update on the Huka Challenge Course

Update on the Huka Challenge Course

The boys from Bike Taupo have been busy making a few changes to the route used for the Huka. We just love keeping riders guessing as to what the course will be - never been the same yet!

Firstly we have a new track, Kinda Grinder, and this will be used to replace the second climb up Grinder. It’s really cool and you can even talk going up it instead of spewing your ribs out. For the tired and knackered there is an alteration to Steamfields section. It now takes you past a great lookout overlooking the Steamfields (now you will know how it got its name) – a good place for a rest.

The hill under the Bungee near the start is always a pinch point as many can’t ride it. The good news is that Rotary have given us some funding and we will have stage one completed before November so it beds in. This will increase the amount who can ride it dramatically.

The actual course is, of course, top secret, but the above will be all in it, plus a few other changes as well.
It’s been a wet winter but all the tracks are riding really well and you have to love that pumice base we are blessed with.

See you at the start line!

Working Bee October 4th and Random Ratbag Relocation

Working Bee October 4th and Random Ratbag Relocation

There will be a working Bee on the 4th of October; Meet at 9am (will miss 2nd half of England/Aust) Wairakei Road 100m past BP Wairakei.

We (Eddie, Chris and the other mad engineers) intend to create the track in and out of the viewing platform on the Steamfield track (so people can actually see some of the Steamfield).

Any questions, please contact Eddie on 027 290 7750.

Kids Bike Taupo Monday sessions will meet at the Pump Track and Spark Trails (Dirt Jumps) in Spa Park at 3.30pm for a few weeks.
The BMX Club have the North Island Champs at Labour Weekend and we want the track to be in tip top shape, so the Ratbags will relocate for a few weeks.  It's a nice opportunity to ride some new stuff too.

Te Iringa Upgrade now Complete

Bike Taupo, along with the Hawkes Bay and Taupo Mountain Bike Clubs, and with funding from Trail fund have completed an upgrade of the Te Iringa Track. It is still a good tech adventure ride but with a lot less 'hike a bike'.

If you are looking for somewhere fresh to ride and you up for a challenge, check it out
