Track Crew News

This time it really did blow!

We are blown away by the amount of support and help we got to get the tracks open again It just showed how much the track system is appreciated.

A plus is we got a few more tunnels around the place now....

The Rotary Ride is now passable. Just make like Bat Man at the BrokenBridge but apart from this it’s back to normal, with a new down hill. We are sorting out prices and seeking funding to replace the bridge.

We had Contact staff come and play pick up sticks on the Huka Lodge Uphill to get that open which was a big help, turned a three day job into a one day.

The new Wairakei track has now got a name S.H. Fun (as in Sate highway) it’s a grade 2 easy warm up.
Murray Fleming has just extended the Day Nighter in Patuiwi Block if you are looking for something new starts just after the ford.

Thanks to the crew who helped at the Moon Ride, bit different having to ride in the mud forget how good we have got it.

Keep the tree reports coming in folks, we will still be getting the odd hang up coming down so keep an eye out

October Track Crew News

We are on our way after three years of thinking and dreaming we have got 700 odd meters built on theGreat Lake Trail (yep new name ) First part of the trail is coming down Chinaman's Creek which will then join onto the Kawakawa Bay track Should be a very easy ride down the valley to the Bay.

Boys have given W2K a birthday up to the bluffs on the Kinloch side The funding came from the Half Marathon so thanks to the Half Man Trust for surporting us

Rotary Ride Bridge is in, the higher handrails have people thinking its a bit narrower but believe us its just the same

Junk and Disorderly the new track the Contact Boys are building is getting closer and closer to Helistar hoping to build a link track to it from the end of Kev's in the next few weeks Otherwise just pop in the hole beside the lookout entry across the road from Outwards Goods. It a great old school MTB ride

Keep the tree reports coming in please its saving a heap of time as Bruce is out and about spraying and cleaning up the tracks so we can get onto them much quicker

To the people training for the Huka you should be just about lapping all the tracks by now If you have done it in the past in the Waikato River track system we are going to pop you up the first track off the river track The one that has the little board walk on it Its a bit easier

And to all those riders who are not doing the Huka we need riders to help on the day Looking for Pre- riders,Tail enders, and general mashals in fact anybody who can help would be great Just email me at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

November Track Crew News

Alls well in the land of biking at the moment, maintenance on the tracks is moving along and new tracks being build.

SH Fun down hill has been build and just needs a fine tune from the Beagle Boys to finish it off This is going to be a great track in the future once the trees grow and its not such a moonscape. This is the time to build new tracks after the land is prepared for planting and  before the trees are planted if possible

The Great Lake Track is moving along at a fast pace with the boys over 2kms down the gully now.

Junk and Disorderly  is now open from both ends We are still to get the signs in place so the Northern entry is, cross the road  from Rapid Sensations ride about 20 meters along the bottom of the hill with the Oak trees and you will see a old track going up the hill, bike up that and you will find the track. On the other end ride into the scenic lookout across the road from Outwards Goods and duck into the hole in the blackberry on the right The track is great old school MTB track Keep your eye on the ball otherwise you will be picking blackberry out of your ass for a while

We don't like bitching  but one thing that riders are doing  that starting to cost a lot of time and money is silly short cuts being build. We are required to have signage on all tracks so of course this means your neat little short cut can end up costing $100 in signage or the boys going in and having to close it off some how. Its also costing time with race set outs as they have to be taped off If you want to build something or improve a track flick us an email, we are all for the tracks being improved

The Huka riders should be sick of training by now so all the best on the day Hope you enjoy the track system around Taupo

Keep the tree reports coming in they are saving us a heap of time and it means they are clear (with luck) the next time you go past

Still looking for Riders to help on the Huka All the money we receive from the Huka goes into the maintenance at Wairakei so its very important to us that this is a great success
