More ONE WAY system

More ONE WAY system

With the increase in MTB traffic in Wairakei, some of it directly related to the Summer Series of the Taupo MTB club (fantastic races by the way - short fast and lots of fun...), the following track has changed:

FAST EDDIE is now a ONE WAY track from Paintball to Bumble Bee!

With Best way to get to the start of 'Fast Eddie' is now through the old "Paintball area". Start at the intersection between Q-line Rd and Powerline Rd. and follow the ribbons. Signs and maps will be amended shortly.

New Down Hill Track

New Down Hill Track

New Down Hill is now ready for people to ride.

It is part of a track that will eventually connect from the top of the Grinder to the Young Pines near where Better than P starts.
It is grade 3 and will be soft for awhile till it gets packed down.

It starts at the top of Coles Killer. To get there:

  • go up the Grinder along the first part of the Buzzard
  • left to Coles along first part of Coles
  • then left again and it will take you down to Karapiti road
  • Right here will take you down the road to the Connection.

There are a couple of links out: one in the hollow before going down 60k hill and one at the bottom of the 60k hill.

Please do not ride up! It is a DOWN HILL track!

Hope you enjoy it.

Cheers

"Better than P" now open

The latest trail to be completed in the Wairakei Forest is now open, thanks to the efforts of Peter Lockwood.

This trail is within the Young Pines block and provides a good flowing single track with a few surprises. The track start is signposted from off the Young Pines track.

Peter has worked on this project for the last few months, often relying on his head lamp to work well after dark.

Following a good turn out at a recent working bee, the Buzzard has had a bit of a make over, particularly some of the corners that were being rutted out. Some new berms and slight re alignments have been constructed which have improved this track.

There are plans afoot to continue improving the tracks over the winter months.

If you want to be involved with working bees and / or improving tracks within the Wairakei Forest sign up to the Track Crew on the web site.
