Thanks to the guys and girls at Ground Effect we have been given $1,000 from the slush fund to finish off the zig-zag-zig plus another zag  coming out of Te Totara gully up to the road.

It’s a big job as we are going to drop the big pine tree and have a lot of work to build up the corners.

(Photo below shows the Te Totara hot stream where it flows into the Waikato at the end of the track - click on it for larger image)

We have a lot of summer maintenance jobs on the go now with re-alignments on the Rotary Ride. Most of these are to reduce wear and tear on the track, and make it more interesting to ride. We will be doing a big job at the Huka falls end.

Seeing a lot of traffic on the Rotary Ride after work, so watch out for other riders remember its two way. For those new to the tracks please yell out the number of riders in your group when meeting others, and downhill gives way to uphill

Cheers

Many thanks to John Taylor and others who got out and cleaned up the slips after the rain last month.  John said it took 3 days just to get the Rotary Ride open again.

Te Totara gully is still coming along just waiting to get a few dollars for the digger to finish the zig zag then another loop is just about complete just the odd little spot to sort out

Wairakei boys have built a track from Outback to the Corner Shop Connection. This gives a faster way home if required for race’s. It’s a neat little G 2 track turn right at the gum trees gate Signs coming soon.

In the next few weeks we are building a another gully track in town so keep a eye out for it.

Cheers

New Tracks for a Happy New Year

Retro is now open with a new sign post. It’s a grade 4 up and down hill, so keep your wits about you.  Fall on the down hill side, and you will have time to think about the landing before you hit the bottom!

Plus check out the "hand grips" on the up hill - this just shows how far we will go to help you get to the top of steep hills.

Another new track opened today coming back from the Tank Stand to the road.
This now splits Lake Hire Link into a single lane till the road. Once it packs down it should be a lot faster and more fun to ride than using the old track as the return to the car pack.

We are working on a new down hill on Cork Screw which should make the trip up the hill worth it. We rode it the other day and were P. off to waist a climb so have hooked into it and will get it sorted soon

Lots of riders about so watch out for others on the tracks and stick to the correct direction when riding in Wairakei.

August 06 News

The "Last of the Summer wine building Co" have been at it again and the Wairakei boys are about to built a new track so watch this space!

The boys have been chipping away in Te Totara Gully and now have it rideable both ways (Yes, you can ride up the hill !)

It's still wet when wet but with the amount of traffic the track is getting people seem to be happy with it. We still have a lot of work to do but will chip at it over the next few months (crews going skiing and on holidays)

We had a bad slip on the tunnel track and have done a realignment which should last a lot longer

We had a stuff up with the email system about a working bee on the Helistar Hill - thanks to those that turned up good to get the metal onto the hill! It's starting to settle down now and is a hell of a lot better to ride up than the old track.

All the signs are in for Outback now, plus the latest maps are up around the place.

Check out the latest Mt bike magazine. We got a great write up on the Rotary Ride. Plus check out the old photo of the National champs in Taupo in 1987. I think that is the gate into the horse paddock tracks are a bit better now days.

We got a load of new posts dropped of to day from Tenon, Big thanks to Mark Taylor for sorting this out, with out them we couldn’t get anywhere near the signage done.

Cheers

Thanks to all those who helped on the MTB-Leg for around the lake!

We had great feed back about the tracks and all the single track system that was used in the event. The odd local reckoned we were getting soft and were expected even more hills, as it was we still shattered a few riders.
We will use the income we received for the event for our ongoing track maintenance program.

A new track has been built over the last 2 or so months running of the bottom of Outback. Its still not open all the way but if you know were it is give it a try. It will be called RETRO, which is a reflection on the age of the guys who built most of it.

Peter Mac has been busy getting the spraying done over the last month and also ding a lot of weed control so most of the tracks are up to speed for the summer, still have the odd one to finish plus the Rotary Ride.

Please keep a eye open for other riders and remember that all tracks on the River side of Wairakei are two way

Cheers Pete M.
