Track Crew Update

The first section of the New Mrs is now open.  It runs of the logging road and joins into the new Young Pines entry.   We are now going to build back to the old entry from the Mr.   After that we are carrying on down the gully with a new track which will go at least as far as the Young Pines entry track, or, may go all the way to the connection.

Also on the agenda is to fix the last part of the Bungy. Thanks to the good buggers at Rotary. This will be another Zig Zag. So starting at the bottom you will have a Zig Zag Zig Zag Zig, then the straight to a Zig Zag Zig Zag Zig corner then Zig Zag (may have missed a Zag).  This is also going to be planted soon so will be a big improvement.

GLT is in great shape with some ripping frosts in the gullies so get out and enjoy it.  Also Waihaha Hut track is open to riders this is a great there and back grade 4 track in Native 10 km each way.

We have had lots of trees down all over the place.  Big thanks to those reporting them, it’s saving heaps of time and money.  We try and clear them in 24 hours so if you come across one that been down a while guess what ???

Thanks to Greening Taupo who have done a great job at Paddy’s Bridge with the plantings and also the work further down Aratiatia.  The Rotary Ride is really starting to look good again.

Track Update

Improvements are continuing on the Rotary Ride up hill - Bruce and the Beagle boys and cleaned the track up and made that last hard left hand corner easier. There are more improvements planned to make this a more user friendly uphill track.

Lucky for these two bloody idiots we cannot identify who you are, but for the record they biked under the track closed signage and tape and into the logging site where a machine was working.

Please just stay aware from these work sites so the rest of us can still bike in the rest of the track system while logging takes place.

Bruce and the Beagle Boys have given Walters Wiggles a tidy up. The trees are growing up and it should hold together better as time goes on.

This is on the Waihaha track which has a new alignment on the little section that was unrideable from the road to the swing bridge. The work has been funded by Trail Funds with help from BT and Volunteers.

Mr and Mrs

The Mr is open again, so you can still blast down to the road as normal.  The option then is to turn right and ride down the road, or, you can turn left then do a right again into the logging area. At the end of the logging road Bruce has marked a rough route over the entry to Young Pines. If you want to check out the new Mrs do so, but it’s a dead end track at present.

Rotary Ride

We are about to start a new alignment at the top of Tailor’s Bluff  which will ease out the very top section and give us better water control.  At the same time we will build up the track again towards Huka Falls.  This will allow it to pack down over winter and also re plant with trees. Be aware there may be times when you have to walk sections.

Waihaha track

We have just finished fixing the track that runs up from the Waihaha bridge to the hut site This was a matter of clearing a one km of over-grown track and also fixing bad mud areas and some very bad water erosion. This was funded by the Trail Fund but did not have the money to do all the work in one year. I can say now that apart from the one section just past the swing bridge all the rest is ridable. Its old school techie mountain biking with great bush and river views takes about two hours in and out riding time. This support from the trail fund has been fantastic as it has let us get some great back country riding opened up all within 40 minutes driving time from Taupo.
