BT Marshalls do a Great Job at Kinloch

BT Marshalls do a Great Job at Kinloch
A huge thanks to those hardy people who assisted Bike Taupo in marshalling the Kinloch Hoka one one last Saturday. This is an important fundraiser for our group and without your support it could not happen. A special mention of the Kinloch Store people who kindly supplied free hot drinks to the very fortunate ½ marathon marshalls. The marathon men were not so lucky. Thanks again and bring on the Huka MTB event November 29.

Track Crew News

Track Crew News

Latest From the Track Crew

With the Steam fields / Resort tracks now up and running the Craters and Eastern track system having some rework improvements the tracks are riding great.  We are also doing some work on the Head Land track to keep it in good shape for the next few years.
The work on the Rotary Ride has been a big improvement coming back to town is now much better. This is thanks to Rotary who have been a great supporter of Bike Taupo over the years. As well as the track work we have also planted another 1000 trees alongside the track.
Other tracks that have seen the diggers are SH Fun which had a makeover three months ago and has now packed down and is great riding. A crew has also reworked the Coaster which has improved the flow.
Steam Fields is proving a hit now it’s fully open and ridable from both Wairakei Resort and coming off the Outback track.  It’s a great loop to do the Outback / Steam fields circuit and back to the car park
Other news is the Hub Cafe is about to open again with new people and good coffee Please support them as this is going to be the bike info center in the future.

Rotary Ride Upgrade

Rotary Ride Upgrade

The track crew is currently busy upgrading sections of the Rotary Ride. The Rotary Ride is often used by visitors some of whom are not serious cyclists and find the current track a bit challenging. The upgrade is taking out some steep sections and widening the track to make a safer two way route. Thanks to Rotary who are funding this work.

Ride the Great Lake Trail With Cath Oldfield

Ride the Great Lake Trail With Cath Oldfield

Not being happy with getting most of the kids in Taupo on bikes Cath has started on the adults...

Cath Oldfield from Kids Bike Taupo is taking a few keen teachers and parents, who she has met at the schools, for a ride on the Great Lake Trail.  Bigger kids welcome, so long as they aren't too fast or too slow.  The focus will be on the adults.  Cath will bring bikes and helmets for those who need them.  Please wear sensible clothing and covered in shoes. There is no water on the track, so please bring some.  The ride will be about two hours...3 at the most.  Safe, wide track but some hill work to be expected.

Any mountain bikers who would like to join are very welcome.  Cath needs riders who have empathy for people starting out.  This will be a fun, rewarding afternoon with no one in a hurry.  She may need to borrow a couple of extra bikes, if anyone is happy to share.

Meeting 1pm Tuesday 7th October at Whangamata Road trailhead (about 8 or 9 km from west from the Kinloch turnoff)

Taupo Smash Repairs Step Up for Kids BT

Taupo Smash Repairs Step Up for Kids BT

Kids BT (and Cath most of all!) are grateful for the huge support from Lou and Lorraine Pilkington at Taupo Smash Repairs for Bertha, the Kids BT van. Cath sent in the recommendation below:

 571137

“They did the work for free to get her up to scratch for the WOF and they also took her 'antlers' off the roof.  Without that extra resistance, I move much faster and even manage to overtake the odd vehicle now. They have also been great over the winter when I have had a bit of trouble starting Bertha on those freezing mornings.  Their premises are over the road from my place in Miro Street and I would have been stuck without them.”
